Pry apart the short hook end enough to fit over the rim of your container of choice and then pinch it back together. Now place your palm on the side of your container, your thumb on the hook and fingers underneath. It’s simple and you’re good to go!
The leverage from your fingers on the bottom of the container and your thumb in the hook gives you a secure and comfortable hold of your container. You’ll notice your hand is pretty close to the way it is when it’s resting by your side. And now you have greater range of motion, your wrist isn’t cocked at a weird angle and your thumb isn’t taking a beating. It’s also easy to pick up and put down and it doesn’t get in your way.
The Thumb Rung holder works best with a container weighing 5 lbs or less. To give you an idea, a full gallon of paint weighs around 11 lbs. I like to use a container 1/4 to 1/3 full for brushwork which is about 3-4 lbs. This leaves about 2-3 inches of paint in the can so you can leave your brush in the paint so it doesn’t dry out if you get distracted like I do.
